Since times immemorial, we have been constantly reminded of one aspect – “You can be good at either this or that. Stop trying to be a Jack of All Trades!”.
When I was in school, my classmates and teachers complimented my communication skills and acknowledged how good I was at expressing myself in situations and to people. They spoke highly of my creative writing skills and even advised me to continue exploring my career in a creative domain.
As I ventured through life, education, and career though, I started realizing that though I was good in language and literature, I was more passionate about numbers, mathematics, and analyzing details to provide insights. I enjoyed solving aptitude questions, and critically analyzing scenarios – skills that helped me ace one of the most competitive exams in the world – the #GMAT.
As human beings, our abilities are definitely not limited to a particular domain or area. So, let’s not succumb to judgmental ideas, fall prey to societal prejudices, and most importantly, let’s be open to exploring unexplored sides of our personalities, and aim to be professionals of versatile capabilities.
“Versatility is an extra string to a player’s bow” – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
